Overheard in NY: Cancer edition

Phlebotomist, drawing blood for visit with my onco: Getting treatment today?

Me: No! That's the first time I've said that in a year.

They always ask, when doing blood draws at the cancer center, if you're having treatment. This was my first blood draw since finishing Herceptin last month.

Keep it together, Priscilla.

  1. Hello,

My name is Lisa and I was also dxd w/cancer. My pwn personal Pearl Harbor date is 12/8/11. I would like to say that my family has been wonderful but they haven;t, they have been abs horrible, more on my side than my husband's side. I had a few friends drop me and that was not a good experience either. I am glad to have found your blog.

My next surgery is November 6th...wish me luck!

    1. I'm sorry that has happened with your family and friends. It happened to me, too, with certain people, but I am always shocked when I hear how common an occurrence it is. Does it help to know that it's not about you, it's about their own fears or sadness or whatever? Sometimes that helps me , but other times not.
Sending so so so much good energy and support for your surgery next month!
